Data Sheet
Aragon Tower, Deptford
Market Sector: High Rise/Residential/Refurbishment
Client: Berkeley Homes
Engineer: JSA
Main Contractor: Berkeley Homes
Tonnage: 250 approx.
The opportunity
We were asked to manufacture and install an additional six floors on top of an existing 25-storey building.
The operation
We provided the new structural steelwork, metal decking, plant screen and in-situ concrete, including the reinforcement for the new suspended floors.
The optimised design for the project kept the piece count of steel components to a minimum. The low overall count was also due, in part, to a rationalised modular and pre-assembly routine by our site crew.
Founded on RC plinths formed on top of the demolished 25th floor roof structure, the new structure springs off a grillage of 753mm deep universal beams and a fabricated lattice truss.
The result
The whole of the works was completed on time and in just twelve weeks on an exposed site overlooking the River Thames. At the time of completion, the building was the tallest residential block in the UK.
