The opportunity

We're delighted to have been involved with the restoration and extension of this landmark tower building, situated in the heart of London. We were responsible for the supply and installation of the structural steelwork, metal decking, stairs, intumescent paint and the connection design.

The operation

The irregular, triangular shape of the building required the beams to be carefully positioned at unusual angles. To add to the complexity, in order to maximise the space on the restricted site footprint, the main columns had to rake into the basement area.

Lightweight cellular beams were selected for floor beams to enable the floor zone to be kept to a minimum. Together, all these factors added to the challenge of maintaining the temporary stability during construction.

As always with projects based on small sites in the centre of the city, planned deliveries were essential.

The result

The refurbishment included the addition of another seven floors of office and retail space.
